About me

Today is day one for my new blog so i thought i would start by telling you all about me! My name is Karen Gilbert Tyssen and i am a physiotherapist in London Ontario. I have been practicing physiotherapy since graduating from what they now call "Western University" in 2007 (to me and anyone who graduated before 2012 it will be U.W.O or Univ. of  Western Ontario). Since graduating I have taken courses in acupuncture, manual therapy, neurological rehabilitation, wheelchair skills, running specific injuries and gait assessment, and selective functional movement assessment. Now long before I became a physio I was an athlete looking to get back in the game. On a number of occassions (more than I could count in fact!) I made my way to a physiotherapy clinic to get back on track and get help for my latest sport related injury. I was amazed by how this man or women called a Phyiotherapist could look at me, move me around, push here and there and then somehow determine what my problem was. But they always fixed me up and got me back out there good as new (and sometimes even better then new!) . It is for this reason i decided to one day become a physiotherapist so i could be the person who has someone stand there, turn, bend this way and that, to determine what was wrong and get others back to the sport they love.
So beyond the letters after my name what am i about? As far back as kindergarden i can remember running "cross country" which consisted of about one lap of a soccer field! Since then my love for the sport has grown and I have run at the high school and University  level for both cross country and track and field. After my University eligibility i began running with a local group Runners Choice. This was a great group of people who helped my insanity for running grow to half marathon and then the eventual marathon distance which i have run for the past 5 years. So this is me and post number 1! I hope to share with you during this blog info on injury, running, physiotherapy and health and most importantly how to get you back to the sport you love (in whichever form of competition you love it!) -Karen
